Alexander Shiryak

Over the course of a co-op purchase and the subsequent lengthy and complicated co-op sale a few years later, I went through three lawyers before I met Alex Shiryak. He is by far the most knowledgeable and thorough lawyer of the bunch, which is why I retained him again when I bought my house. He also ...got me 100% of the down payment escrow from a would-be buyer of my co-op after the sale fell through. For home sales and purchases, he has his own page of riders designed to protect his client, which he adds to any contract. These seem to be based on his experiences of various random things that can throw a wrench into the works. At my last closing, he was actually guiding the seller’s attorney through some of the processes. On two occasions, he advised against my hiring him for smaller jobs saying that he would be happy to take my money but that I could just as easily complete the task. He then gave me brief instructions, off the clock, for how to go about things. He returns emails promptly, often the same day, and almost always within 24 business hours. On a more personal level, we had to bring our infant to our last closing, and Alex let my wife use his office to nurse him. I’ve heard that real estate closings are cookie cutter law, and that any attorney can handle them. This might be true for simple transactions when nothing goes wrong. But when any complications arise, I know from experience that the attorney matters.
