You have to be a full time student in order to maintain F1 status. Meet with an attorney in your area to discuss your best options.

I think what your parents are trying to do is to travel on B visa, use the maximum time allowed and then come back after a short (3 months) stay...

It is OK. Never had a problem if just "Chicago Lock box" is omitted. As was pointed out, the content of the envelope is more important.
