While serving thirteen-plus years as a jailhouse lawyer in maximum security settings, I became the poster boy for the opponents of the infamous Rockefeller Drug Laws which led Governor Mario Cuomo to grant me executive clemency and commute my sentence. Having experienced the system from Rikers I to Dannemora, i'm fully familiar with corrections and prison disciplinary proceedings, security classification, temporary release, parole, criminal appeals, post-conviction relief through C.P.L. 440, state and federal habeas corpus and state and federal criminal appeals. My first criminal appeal, briefed in the Eastern C.F. law library long before I went to law school and became a lawyer, resulted in the reversal of my cohabitant "client"'s felony murder conviction AND the dismissal of the indictment. He had been serrving 25-years to life for the felony murder of an off-duty NYPD officer. My contributions to criminal justice reform did not cease upon my release. Rather I went on to work for Ramsey Clark on the first World Trade Center bombing case, the Criminal Defense Division of the NYC Legal Aid Society, lobby for the reform of the Rockefeller laws and work pro bono on multiple wrongful conviction exonerations. It took a whle to overcome my past and gain admission to the bar but after 20 lawfully lived years and some very thorough vetting, I was finally allowed to use my legal skills legally. I've enjoyed considerable success since. Having lived in a cell for over a decade, I dont need a lot to be happy. My rates are reasonable and I'm still more interested in making a difference than making money. Hopefully, I can help you. If you think so, get in touch.
