Dissatisfied with services for steep price

The 1-star review by Andrey is accurate to my experience. I found David through a web search for estate lawyers. Upon first meeting, he gave a good impression so I hired him. A week later, I realized this was not a good match for me and I fired him. We did not make it to court or file documents be...fore then so I have no comment regarding his skills in court or legal proceedings. I give David a full 5 stars for responsiveness and being well-spoken. He certainly has the presence of a professional you'd like to work with. However, I was not satisfied with his level of attention to details to my case. He often asked questions to which I had already provided answers to in previous emails, misstated information I had provided, or even miss-spelled my name in official documents for me to sign. While none of these alone is egregious, the fact it happened as much as it did in the course of a week made me question if the level of attention I was receiving justified his steep rate. The other thing I was very displeased with was that David did not answer my questions. My questions were met with vague, verbose answers that sounded impressive but did not address my question, or my questions were waved off with assurances that he was the right man for the job. Since terminating my client relationship with David, I consulted with some other attorneys about my case. I've been informed it's a simple case that should cost me in the ballpark of $3,500 for the entire case. To give David the benefit of a doubt, there were a lot more unknowns at the time that I consulted with him than when I consulted with any subsequent lawyers. That being said, David could not offer me a ballpark estimate for his own services, nor could he give me a standard increment of time he bills on. Instead, he informed me that he rounds his time on a case-by-case basis. I don't know if that's standard to the industry, but it seems unprofessional to me. Considering that 4 days of David's service ran me nearly as much, I am relieved with my decision to hire someone else.

In this instance upon careful, thoughtful and thorough reflection based upon the gross inaccuracies, angry and skewed attempt at “cancel culture” I find that “less is more”. It is indeed sad to think that a young disgruntled individual who thought she wanted to be represented, who never executed any retainer document or letter of engagement, for whom I worked diligently and prodigiously in a short and time pressured manner to research the various issues and then define the task, state the objectives and develop the required strategy all quite expertly and efficiently; somehow believes that a nasty diatribe can tarnish the hard fought and achieved sterling reputation of a lawyer who has steadfastly and diligently represented the interests of hundreds of clients for more than 40 years. This individual, indeed may have possessed multiple reasons to be disgruntled and indeed even angry as a result of family and estate circumstances; however, I can only state that her comments are simply misguided, misinformed and misdirected and they only demonstrate a complete lack of understanding respecting any aspect of the procedural or substantive nature of what I was asked to do and what would have been done had this individual formalized her intended engagement and proceeded forward. She seems to be complaining about some draft document that may have utilized a maiden name; however apart from the fact that no legal documents were ever filed, the predicate and premise of her core complaints are nothing more than some angry attempt to find a target for her remorse.

Relationship: Opposing Counsel on matter

"I just finished a highly contentious divorce action with Mr. Grauer and we were able to reach a positive outcome for both of our clients by seeking opportunities for settlement that were in the best interest of the parties. He worked very hard for his client and as a result the case was settled without going to Court saving both clients substantial time and money. He was always responsive to my request to discuss settlement terms and to ensure each party had an opportunity to offer his or her concerns. Any client that is represented by Mr. Grauer can feel confident he will be a strong advocate for their rights and well being."

Relationship: Worked together on matter

"I worked with David recently on a litigated divorce which resulted in a settlement. I also worked on David many years ago when I first started practicing in Westchester in the 1980's. David is a strong advocate for his clients. He works hard to balance advocacy with the need to educate his clients concerning the importance of reaching a cost effective resolution of issues. We were able to work out a comprehensive settlement for our clients in an emotionally charged situation, in part due our combined efforts to find options and alternatives that worked for these clients."

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community

"I endorse this lawyer. David is a strong advocate for his clients. He has many years of litigation experience including trials and appeals in divorce cases. David is also ethical and from a good family; his father is a rabbi. Divorce clients who need a lawyer, who is highly competent and ethical to fight for their rights, would be in good hands having David represent them."
