My wife and I discussed the $1 million NYS estate tax exemption and a supposed need for a trust with Keiser during the latter half of 2013 and early 2014; he used legal/tax jargon that was difficult to understand -- in January of this year WE alerted HIM to a news item that said Cuomo had proposed ex...actly the April change in the law doubling the exemption. Keiser said (once we pressed him for an answer) that yes if this passed we would not need a trust but did nothing to tell us that there was a strong likelihood it would be passed very soon, and then simply sent us the supposedly final wills and trust documents for us to execute along with his bill. In fact, if we had executed the trust document it would have been irrevocable -- he advised us to enter into a complicated structure that we didn't need and would have created more problems than it solved. He didn't take care to explain things carefully in terms we understood, he was not responsive and never even met with us. We recommend not using him.
