A special needs attorney who truly cares and gets results

We've hired Michael for two separate situations over the last several years, and, without a doubt, he was the right choice. Michael is doing this for the right reasons; he truly cares about each family and student he works with, and the results speak for themselves. We achieved exactly what we needed... (and our school district is notoriously difficult) each time we worked with Michael. The first time we hired Michael, it was to review footage of a bullying incident that our school district refused to allow us to see. Thanks to Michael, we were able to watch the footage, point out the incident, and get the district to do what was required. The second time was much more intense, involving the teachers' & staffs' unwillingness to understand/accept our child's disabilities and work with our child appropriately. It was a nightmare for our entire family, but Michael handled it perfectly. The district dragged its feet, but Michael's expert & honest guidance kept us calm, and we eventually got exactly what we needed for our child, who is now thriving in a different school. I will absolutely use Michael again and refer him to anyone who needs help with their special needs child. He gets it, and he's a pleasure to work with.

excellent, attentive special education attorney

We hired Michael to represent both of our daughters. Michael has been in communication with us throughout the process. He is very responsive to our emails and it is easy to set up phone conferences with him. He is realistic in his assessment of the possible outcomes for each case with an honest asses...sment of the cost v. benefit analysis of pursuing various options. We have very much valued his candor and judgement throughout this process. Based on our experience, we would highly recommend him as a special education attorney.

Broken promises and unmet expectations

I hired Michael as a special ED lawyer, to represent my child case, but unfortunately he did not met my expectations. There was a big lack of getting to know the case and he was very concerned about collecting checks only. He is not a self starter, instead of going through the IEPs to build a case, h...e was emailing me with questions that could be answered by reading the IEP. Lack of taken ownership on his actions. Have to be pushed too much to take actions. I was looking to have an IEP being reinforced by the district, instead of taking actions he was just looking for postpone the situation. Lawyers must meet parent's needs when it comes to Special ED, and he was just looking to extend the case as much as he could. Therefore, there was a lost of confidence. I do not recommend his services at all.

Unfortunately this was a client who refused to communicate or provide documents in a timely manner if at all and when told what her responsibilities to provide information were claimed I should have received the documents from the school district and did not understand it was her obligation to provide them to me not the school district's. She also refused to have the necessary patience to understand that getting the services she want would take time and not happen instantly. I also was flexible in allowing her to pay over a longer period then typical clients so saying I was only concerned about checks is simply not true. Parent expected she could do nothing to help advance her child's case and consistently asked me to do things that were not proper or appropriate.

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community

"Michael is truly committed to helping people in the realm of education law, particularly as it applies to those with special needs. This is a highly-specific area of the law, and to know that there is someone with the passion to pursue this area is comforting, as well as the fact that he is a member of this small-and-knowledgeable community."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
