Such a contract would be a claim against the estate but whether it should be paid is another issue. You certainly do not have to pay on your own...

The format of the deed is not inherently a problem. A forgery, no matter the format, is always a problem. This must be proven.

Your bank might be able to print out a record of the transaction. They are not required to search for you.
