Jury acquits man charged with violent felony assault on a police officer.
Feb 10, 2014OUTCOME: Jury found "Not Guilty"
Mr. Washington was charged with assaulting a police officer. A thorough investigation conducted by defense counsel revealed the existence of potential independent eyewitnesses, who were tracked down a ... defense investigator, who were interviewed, and who later testified at trial that the arresting officer had fabricated the allegation that Mr. Washington had violently assaulted him. Defense counsel's investigation also revealed that the officer, in an unrelated case, had previously been proven by video evidence to have falsified factual allegations against another defendant, which information was used to impeach the officer's credibility on the witness stand. After a multi-day trial, the jury acquitted Mr. Washington and he was finally set free.
