In September 2019, I engaged MZRN's (now MRNT) legal services for my divorce proceedings.
Adam Richards was assigned as my lawyer and I was told that my case was pretty straightforward- we needed to determine the value of the marital business and determine my husband’s income.
Unfortunately, my... case became more complex due to my ex and his lawyer’s refusals to follow court orders.
Adam and his team were ill equipped to handle my case despite his reassurance that they could. Perhaps if you have no children or assets, Adam and his team can help you get divorced with no issues but if you are divorcing someone that refuses to follow court orders with an opposing lawyer that is out for money, then this is likely not the right team for you.
Serious issues arose as we sought to assess the value of our marital business and determine my husband's income. Despite recommending what was supposedly the best valuation team available, my attorney, Adam Richards, acknowledged their inadequacy three years later.
During our custody dispute, MZRN suggested three “exceptional” GALs, one of which was ultimately selected by the judge. After the conclusion of her involvement, Adam Richards conceded that his team’s recommendation was ill advised, expressing his firm's intention to avoid her in the future.
The course of my divorce was delayed not only by my husband and his legal representation, but also by my own lawyer.
My pleas for a deposition date were ignored for months, a crucial move that might have curbed my husband's abusive litigation tactics. Instead, I was advised to initiate a costly motion (due to my husband’s refusal to once again follow the court’s orders), which amounted to over $25,000, yet Adam failed to include pertinent financial details about my husband, information that could have significantly influenced the judge's decision. While the motion was successful (which I wrote the majority of), my husband's fees went unpaid and I was burdened with an additional $10,000 of his lawyer fees, a result I believe to be solely attributable to my attorney's error when he removed the financial information (a forensic report stating my husband made triple what he claimed previously) I had originally placed in the motion myself.
Despite my relief upon finally resolving the case over a span of over 3.5 years, my attorney assured me that the settlement agreement was airtight and was worded properly. Unfortunately, this was not the case. After nearly four years of negotiation and substantial financial investment, one would expect the settlement, including its language, to be impeccable.
It was my assumption that my attorney's assurance regarding language accuracy and the shared financial responsibilities for extracurricular activities and camp costs (up to $5,000 each) would be upheld. Regrettably, Adam and his team demonstrated an alarming lack of care, resulting in avoidable errors during the drafting and finalization of the settlement. This oversight has and will continue to have a profound impact on my children, costing them substantial financial support and opportunities.
I unequivocally discourage the retention of Adam Richards, Meghan Carey, or Robert Moses for divorce representation. In the event of serious failure, they will subtly shift blame onto you. Even after settling, any attempts to rectify their admitted errors will be met with dismissal and they will literally tell you that you should be grateful for them and what they did for you. Their priorities are clear—they are opportunistic and driven by financial gain, disregarding your well-being and that of your children.
If you seek a lawyer you can rely on with integrity, and a commitment to securing a flawless settlement—without sacrificing your life savings—I strongly advise against considering Adam Richards or any MRNT Law attorneys.
