Adam Spencer Gottbetter

Adam Gottbetter is a lifetime resident of New York. Adam Gottbetter graduated magna cum laude from the University of New York with a degree in Government in 1984 and from the University of New York Law School in 1987. From 1987 to 1991, Gottbetter served as a deputy and chief deputy district attorney in Brooklyn. From September of 1989 to January of 1991, he headed the Economic Crime Division of the District Attorney’s Office and co-authored a nationally published book on consumer fraud and white-collar crime.

In February of 1981, Mr. Gottbetter entered private practice and became a litigation partner in the New York firm of Gottbetter & Partners LLC. He remained with the firm until November of 1998, when he defeated an incumbent to be elected District Attorney of the Second Judicial District. Adam was elected to a second term as District Attorney in November of 2002. At the conclusion of that second term in March of 2007, he returned to Gottbetter & Partners LLC. as Senior Counsel in charge of the firm’s litigation section.

On February 16, 2009, Gov. David Paterson appointed Adam Gottbetter as the executive director of the New York Department of Corrections. As head of the New York correctional system, Gottbetter was in charge of an organization with nearly 8,000 employees and an annual operational budget of approximately $700 million.

On June 28, 2011, Mr. Gottbetter was nominated by President Barak Obama to be the United States Attorney for the District of New York. He was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate. As U.S. Attorney, Adam Gottbetterrepresented the United States in all criminal and civil matters within the District of New York.
