Kamal Jafarnia

Kamal Jafarnia currently serves as Senior Vice President of W. P. Carey Inc., Chief Compliance Officer (“CCO”) and General Counsel of Carey Financial, LLC, and acts as Senior Vice President and CCO of Carey Credit Advisors, Inc.

Mr. Jafarnia joined W. P. Carey Inc. in October of 2014.  Prior to joining W. P. Carey Inc., he served as Counsel to two separate international American Lawyer Global 100 law (“Am Law 100”) firms in New York, New York.  Immediately prior to W. P. Carey Inc., he was a corporate and securities attorney in the REIT practice group at the law firm of Greenberg Traurig, LLP (“GT”) and, before GT, Mr. Jafarnia was counsel in the Financial Services & Products Group and was a member of the REIT practice group in the New York office of the law firm of Alston & Bird, LLP.

Before his tenure at these two separate Am Law 100 firms, Mr. Jafarnia served as a senior executive, in house counsel and CCO for several alternative investment program sponsors.  Between 2008 and 2012, he was the counsel at American Realty Capital (“ARC”), a real estate investment program sponsor, and served as CCO of its affiliated broker-dealer, Realty Capital Securities, LLC.  Before joining ARC in 2008, he served as Executive Vice President of Franklin Square Capital Partners, an investment management firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and as CCO of FB Income Advisors, LLC, a registered investment advisory affiliate of Franklin Square.  Between 2006 and 2008, he also served as Assistant General Counsel of Behringer Harvard and as CCO of Behringer Securities, LP. Additionally, prior to that, between 2004 and 2006, Mr. Jafarnia served as Vice President of legal for CNL Capital Markets, Inc. and as CCO to CNL Fund Advisors, Inc. and CNL Institutional Advisors, Inc.

Mr. Jafarnia received his LL.M. in securities and financial regulation in 2011 from Georgetown University Law Center and his J.D. from Temple University School of Law.  He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he received his B.A. in Economics/Government.
