In 2018 I was arrested and charged with a federal crime facing a significant amount of time in prison if convicted. I spent the next 14 months preparing for trial as I was told by my attorneys that my case was winnable. Of course I was happy with that opinion but what did I know about the risks of g...oing to trial? Based on doubts I began to have regarding strategy and with no real attempt to negotiate a plea bargain I was advised by a friend who had been through the system to seek a second opinion. It seemed that my attorneys were more interested in bleeding me dry by going to trial then taking a path with the least amount of risk. Facing prison is a life changing event, and with prosecutors having a 97% success rate you better be damn sure your case is winnable.
