Stopped responding to emails after being consulted for legal review

I was considering hiring Paul as immigration attorney, but as a previous immigration case with a different lawyer got rejected, I was hesitant. Paul offered to provide me with a legal review of the previous case for $400, which would then be deducted from his full legal fee to process a new immigrati...on case if we decided to pursue this. After reviewing the previous case Paul held a phone consult with me, where he said he thought the previous case was flawed and he would be able do a better job as the case did have some merit. There were also other immigration options we could pursue. We agreed I would think about it and could email him any further questions and whether I wanted to pursue formal representation. I was still hesitant and emailed him some additional questions. He then stated he would recommend identifying specific areas where I may be able to strengthen my case and then revisiting the overall merits of the case in a few months’ time. In order to do so, I had to become more active in one specific area of my previous case. He also advised that it would be helpful if I could get additional articles about my work published to strengthen the case. I questioned him on how to best achieve this 'strengthening' and whether he'd be willing to start some early work on this case and offer more advice around what specific actions would be most valuable (for additional payment). He never responded. A couple of months later I reached out to him again stating that there had been further professional developments and whether he was still interested in providing legal counsel. I also never received a response to that email. I found it unprofessional for Paul to first imply that there was some merit to my case and that we could pursue it together with some additional efforts, but then never respond to any of my messages about what these efforts would entail specifically. He could have also simply given me the courtesy to inform me if he was too busy or did not want to pursue this case for any other reason. I can not recommend him for immigration services

This review is from an individual in the United Kingdom who is angry that I would not take his case. This individual initially posted a false review claiming that I had stolen money - arguably the worst accusation that can be made against an attorney. I contacted this individual after seeing his false review and he removed it. This individual also sent me an email stating: “the reason I posted a negative review was not to imply you didn’t perform the legal review I paid for . . . you did provide the service I paid for.” This individual previously submitted an EB-1 petition with another attorney but was denied because USCIS did not feel that he satisfied the “extraordinary ability” standard. As agreed upon, I reviewed the prior EB-1 petition, the RFE, and the USCIS denial notice. I then held a 92-minute consultation with this individual, during which numerous immigrant and nonimmigrant categories were discussed at length. Based on the facts of this individual's case, I informed him that I would not represent him on another EB-1 petition and recommended that he take 6+ months to strengthen his case before revisiting the matter. Following the consultation, this individual sent several emails requesting that I represent him and/or prepare a “draft” EB-1 petition that he would revise in a month or two with additional materials. I responded to this individual, declining his requests and reiterating that he strengthen his ability to satisfy the EB-1 criteria and revisit the overall merits of the case in the coming months. Three weeks after the consultation, this individual sent me an email stating a course of action that I considered to be fabrication of evidence. At this point, I stopped responding to this individual’s requests to represent him because: (a) I had already declined his case; (b) I was not comfortable with the actions he had proposed; and (c) I do not file cases that I do not believe are approvable. I am sorry that this individual is upset, but I completed a thorough review and declined to represent him on a second EB-1 petition.

Exceptional service and outcome

My first contact with Paul was when I was looking for advice on a spouse visa. He provided valuable and correct advice, and provided it completely free of charge even though I'd never engaged him for work before. Some time later I decided to move to an EB1C (employment based green card) and engag...ed Paul for this service. His level of service from the start to the finish was exceptional. He set the right expectations about time frames, milestones and challenges. He was incredibly responsive and always helped us with our many questions throughout the process. We were dealt a number of curve balls throughout the process and Paul handled every one of them perfectly and left us feeling reassured and confident in the success of our application. I would highly recommend Paul to anyone looking for immigration law services and will certainly use him in the future for any additional immigration law matters.

PLEASE READ -- it's hard to find a great immigration attorney

I met Paul through a personal recommendation after I had a few not-so-stellar experiences with 3 other immigration attorneys in New York City. I started working with Paul in 2016 and among a few other items, he has assisted me and my wife with an employment-based green card application. If you're ...reading this review, I assume you already know how long and rocky the road to permanent resident status can be. In every case, there are unique factors that need to be managed, anticipated and thoroughly planned by the attorney -- what we appreciated most working with Paul, is that he guided us through the entire process with outstanding attention to detail and incredible foresight. At multiple junctions in the process he pointed out and explained common mistakes to avoid and was able to compare our situation with precedent cases he's worked on to help us understand different scenarios and what would happen next. During my first consultation with Paul, he transparently laid out the entire process to me from start to finish including timelines, milestones and fee structure. He always communicated clearly and answered all of our questions immediately (of which there were many). While our applications were being adjudicated, the current administration changed a number of immigration policies -- Paul kept us appraised of all changes and their potential impact on our case. As an alien seeking immigration benefits, one often feels powerless while going through the process. Paul always took a consultatory approach and gave us options to choose from whenever we hit a fork in the road, which made us feel like we were navigating the process with him as a team. We are grateful to have met Paul, and that we chose him as our attorney for this critical part of our lives. In my experience, there are many below-average attorneys practicing immigration law whose lack of knowledge or professionalism can put a case in serious jeopardy. We trust and recommend Paul wholeheartedly and I encourage you to contact him to discuss your legal matter -- you will be happy to have found Paul. I'm convinced that our case, which hasn't always been straightforward, would not have been handled as competently by anybody other than Paul.

Excellent Immigration Attorney with Best-in-Class Knowledge and Service

Paul Devendorf was referred to me as highly recommended for my immigration situation after being clueless about different scenarios and not getting clear answers from multiple sources. I'm living in US for last 5 years and worked for one of the top investment banks. After a consultation session with ...Paul, his level of knowledge was evident to me as the best I have come across. He helped me with all the "if-then" scenarios on my situation and I was really impressed by the clarity I received. Then the real deal was when I was switching my jobs and my H-1B change of employer petition was completely messed up by one of the most renowned immigration firm (received an RFE, extremely slow and sloppy job, contract attorneys handling the case, and I almost lost my job offer). Paul was a savior who did a fantastic job of convincing my new employer explaining them the process very clearly, acted in the most efficient and thorough manner, extremely professionally, to get my petition approved in the most seamless way. I have a high level of respect and trust in Paul's knowledge and service. I would hands down recommend Paul as best-in-class immigration attorney. Moreover, Paul also helped my wife to obtain her independent H-1B visa for her start-up. All the friends and colleagues that I and my wife have referred Paul to have had very satisfying experience with Paul. He has acted as the one-stop shop for providing most appropriate solutions to any immigration situations or complications.

H1B renewal and Green card application

Working with Paul was a refreshing change after having dealt with a lawyer that consistently ignored my calls and nearly missed filing deadlines. I was working with a company that had filed for my green card and simultaneously applied for my H1B extension. The previous immigration attorney that was ...hired was evasive and had to be chased before every deadline. My manager eventually decided to hire Paul after getting tired of being avoided. Paul is extremely knowledgeable and efficient. It is clear that he draws from years of experience and is very professional. He helped with my H1B extension and subsequently, when I left the company he also helped with the application for the E3D visa as well as the EAD. He made the process seem far more seamless than in it is and also kept me updated every step of the way. I highly recommend Paul for any immigration work.
