I contacted this lawyer to represent me in a breach of fixed term employment contract case. First she falsely informed me that “Under New York contract law, to support a breach of a contract to employ for a specific term, there must be a written agreement signed by both parties”. It took me about 1...0 minutes to Google it and find out it’s not true. In N.Y. it’s governed by the “Statute of Frauds” which requires only “some note or memorandum thereof be in writing, and subscribed by the party to be charged therewith”. Then she told me that, “under our professional ethics rules” I have to pay her $10,000 to research “kind of a law school jurisdiction question” just so she can decide whether she would even represent me. Not only she doesn’t know the law, she apparently perceives lawyer’s job as an education paid by a client before she even decides to represent him, not as a professional service to protect the client’s interest.
