Michael Tremonte

Michael Tremonte is a partner and co-founder of Sher Tremonte LLP.  After graduating from New York University School of Law, he clerked for the Honorable Nicholas G. Garaufis in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York and worked as an associate at Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP.  Prior to establishing Sher Tremonte LLP, Mr. Tremonte was a partner at Cohen & Gresser LLP and served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.

Mr. Tremonte is an experienced counselor, trial lawyer and appellate advocate.  He has obtained favorable outcomes as counsel to individuals and companies in a wide range of forums, including state and federal trial and appellate courts throughout the United States, before state and federal regulatory agencies and before international arbitration tribunals.  He has successfully tried cases to verdict as a federal prosecutor, as defense counsel and on behalf of clients in civil proceedings.

Mr. Tremonte’s practice includes complex commercial disputes, securities and other class action litigation, banking litigation, antitrust, accountants’ liability and employment law.  His white collar practice focuses on the defense of companies and individuals in federal and state criminal and regulatory investigations involving allegations of securities, insurance and accounting fraud, antitrust violations, improper trading practices, market manipulation, tax fraud and money laundering.  Mr. Tremonte also has extensive experience handling civil and criminal RICO cases.

Mr. Tremonte is admitted to practice in New York State, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Tremonte graduated with highest academic honors from Vassar College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.  He also attended the American School of Classical Studies in Athens, Greece, and is an alumnus of the graduate program in classical philology at Princeton University.

Mr. Tremonte serves on the Judiciary Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and as a co-chair of the Ethics Subcommittee of the ABA Litigation Section Commercial and Business Litigation Committee.

Mr. Tremonte serves on the Board of Directors of Thinkmap, Inc., which develops and markets online applications that focus on language, English vocabulary learning, dictionary reference, and word exploration through products delivered via the Internet for desktop and mobile platforms, including .
