David Mclean Morrison

David Morrison focuses his practice on transactions in media, film, and television production, where he counsels clients in all phases of scripted and documentary motion picture, television, and new media production, including rights acquisitions, corporate formation, private equity financing, guild agreements, incentives and rebates, production contracts, clearance matters (including fair use, privacy, and First Amendment matters), co-production, distribution, and sales agreements, collections, and related rights administration. In addition, David advises individual writers, directors, and producers on all aspects of their careers and provides general counsel services to production company clients in connection with both independent and branded productions

Prior to joining Thompson Bukher, David was a faculty member at the Cardozo School of Law where he co-founded and directed The Indie Film Clinic, the first non-profit clinical program in New York dedicated to providing production and clearance representation to scripted and documentary film productions.

David is a frequent lecturer on topics in film and entertainment law and has spoken at Stanford University, New York University, The New School, the School for Visual Arts, the Tribeca Film Festival, the Maysles Institute, and the New York State Bar Association. His scholarly work has been published in the Fordham Intellectual Property, Media & Entertainment Law Journal, cited by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, and presented at the 2012 Intellectual Property Scholars Conference and IP for Creative Upstarts at Michigan State University.
