Bernd H. Allen is the senior partner of the firm. With over thirty years of experience in real estate law, his practice has grown with strong emphasis on condominiums and cooperatives. He has extensive experience in the formation and conversion of cooperatives and condominiums. The firm has handled over five hundred such conversions. As a result, he sits on many cooperative Boards of Directors and condominium Boards of Managers. His knowledge of this area of business enables him to aid in securing and closing acquisition and/or construction financing.
A large portion of Mr. Allen’s practice consists of representing Sellers and Purchasers of residential properties (Apartment Buildings, Brownstones, Cooperatives and Condominium Units) primarily in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
He was a founding member of the “Park Slope Betterment Committee” and became its president for three years. The committee was dedicated to saving Park Slope buildings slated for destruction by the City of New York pursuant to the unsafe building program. The committee purchased these buildings from the City and found willing buyers or found buyers to directly purchase the buildings from the City. After many notable successes, the committee disbanded once the need no longer existed.
For two consecutive years, Mr. Allen chaired a CLE course given by Lorman Education Services entitled, “Legal Aspects of Condominium Development and Home Owners Associations” and has provided lectures for the New York City Bar Association on real estate matters. He has served monthly for more than twelve years as a volunteer arbitrator for the Civil Court of New York, small claims part.
Mr. Allen is a member of the New York State and New York City Bar Associations, Real Estate Sections. He has represented Not-For-Profit organizations on a pro-bono basis including, but not limited to, the National Council of Jewish Women (New York Chapter) and the Rainforest Alliance.
Bernd H. Allen graduated from the St. Johns University Law School (J.D. & LLB) and is admitted to the New York State Bar. He also attended New York University Law School toward a master’s degree in taxation.
