About Louis
Biography
Lou Russo is the founder of Russo Law LLC and a business lawyer with nearly 20 years of experience advising business owners, founders, and investors in New York and New Jersey. He trained at leading AmLaw 100 firms, including Proskauer Rose, Winston & Strawn, and Alston & Bird, where he developed a strong foundation in complex business and commercial matters.
Lou regularly helps clients buy and sell businesses, representing both buyers and sellers in asset purchases, stock purchases, and ownership transfers. His practice includes structuring transactions, conducting due diligence, and drafting and negotiating purchase agreements and business contracts. He works closely with clients’ accountants, insurance professionals, and other advisors to manage risk and guide transactions efficiently from initial discussions through closing.
In addition to transactional work, Lou represents businesses and owners in lawsuits and business disputes, including contract disputes, partnership and shareholder conflicts, and related commercial claims. He frequently assists clients in resolving disputes through pre-suit negotiations, mediation, and arbitration, and represents clients as counsel in FINRA and American Arbitration Association (AAA) Consumer arbitrations, as well as in state and federal court litigation when necessary. His approach emphasizes practical, business-driven outcomes and efficient dispute resolution.
Lou’s work has been consistently recognized by leading legal rating organizations. He has been named a Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers from 2022 through 2025, after previously being selected as a Rising Star from 2017 through 2020. He has also held an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell since 2020 and has been recognized as a Martindale-Hubbell Client Champion (Platinum) each year since 2020. Russo Law LLC has maintained an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau since 2021.
A magna cum laude graduate of Hofstra Law School, Lou served as Associate Editor of the Hofstra Law Review and Vice President of the Moot Court Association. He also completed the National Institute for Trial Advocacy’s trial techniques program. Lou earned his B.A. in political science, with a minor in biology, from Villanova University.
