Biography
Thomas R. Smith is a managing partner of the law firm and Chair of the Personal Injury department. He concentrates his practice on complex personal injury litigation matters, including product defect cases against major corporations such as Toyota Motor Company, RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and Ford Motor Company, serious injuries from motor vehicle crashes, tractor–trailer, motorcycle and bicycle accidents, premises liability, dram shop cases and cases arising from nursing home and long-term care neglect.
After graduating from Seton Hall Law School in Newark NJ and serving as a judicial law clerk, Mr. Smith joined PR&A and has practiced law here for his entire career. He has tried numerous cases to verdict in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania State Courts and the Federal District Court of New Jersey. He is also a skilled appellate attorney, whose reported cases include Sherwood v Johnson (App. Div. 1991) and Fiori v. Trident Construction Corp. (App. Div. 1991). Mr. Smith is in demand as a lecturer on a variety of legal matters, including third party liability involving work related injuries; motor vehicle insurance issues; workplace discrimination and trial and litigation skills and methods.
The Hamilton Area YMCA honored Mr. Smith as Man of the Year in 2007. He is active in the community, having served on numerous local not for profit boards, including the Hamilton Area YMCA and The Miracle League of Mercer County, which Boards he chaired for several years, Visitation Homes of New Jersey, Project Freedom and Community Options. He has also volunteered for the Special Olympics of New Jersey and served as judge of the Mercer County Moot Court Competition.
Mr. Smith is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He is a member of the New Jersey State and Mercer County Bar Associations and the New Jersey Association for Justice.
