William M. Tambussi is a partner with Brown & Connery, LLP. He concentrates his practice in labor and employment litigation, complex civil litigation and governmental affairs. He has an active trial and appellate practice in the federal and state courts in New Jersey.
Bill has been a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers since 2009. He has also been certified as a Civil Trial Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey since 1991. In addition, he has served as a member of the New Jersey Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Expedited Civil Actions, as a member of the United States Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel for the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, Camden Vicinage (2002) and as a Commissioner of the Camden County Board of Elections from 1990 to 1991. He serves as General Counsel, Special Litigation Counsel and Special Labor and Employment Counsel to a number of bi-state governmental entities, counties, municipalities and independent governmental authorities in Southern New Jersey. He also represents clients in the private sector, including TD Bank, Cooper Health System, Conner Strong & Buckelew and Fortune 500 companies periodically engaged in litigation in New Jersey. He has been counsel to the Camden County Democratic Committee since 1989.
After receiving his undergraduate degree in 1980 from Dickinson College where he met his wife, Barbara, and played football and lacrosse, Bill received his law degree from New England Law - Boston in 1983. He began his legal career as a law clerk at the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office in 1982 and, while attending Rutgers School of Law, Camden as a third year visiting student, began his employment at Brown & Connery in August 1982. He was an Associate with Brown & Connery from 1983-1987 and has been Partner since 1987.
Bill was admitted to practice in New Jersey in 1983. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the American, New Jersey, and Camden County Bar Associations.
Bill has tried numerous cases in the State and Federal Courts in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. He has argued many cases before the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. He has argued before the New Jersey Supreme Court in landmark employment cases involving whistleblowers, disability discrimination and hostile work environments. Most recently, Bill argued before the New Jersey Supreme Court and Third Circuit Court of Appeals on the issue of the eligibility of candidates to run for public office and other election law issues. He has appeared before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Labor Relations Board, and the U.S House of Representatives Committee on Ethics, and the New Jersey Division of Civil Rights, Public Employment Relations Commission, Joint Legislative Committee on Ethical Standards and Election Law Enforcement Commission.
Bill is the co-author of "Too Strict Liability: Making Local Government Entities Pay for Waste Disposal Site Cleanup," which was published in the 1990 Villanova Environmental Law Journal. In 2007, he testified on the RESPECT Act of 2007 before the Subcommittee on Health, Employment and Labor of the House Committee on Education and Labor, 110th Congress. He also is a regular lecturer for ICLE and the Camden County Bar Association on a number of topics, including election law, public employment law and trial advocacy.
Bill presently serves on the Board of Governors of Rutgers University having been appointed to that board by Governor Chris Christie in 2014.
