Jeremy Morgan Lackey

Jeremy Lackey is a seasoned criminal attorney who served as an Assistant Prosecutor for the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and as a Deputy Attorney General for New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, Division of Criminal Justice, before co-founding the firm Lackey & Miller, LLC.

During his tenure as an Assistant Prosecutor and Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Lackey prosecuted cases in both the juvenile criminal court and the adult criminal court. While assigned to the Grand Jury and Trial Team units, Mr. Lackey investigated and presented hundreds of matters to the grand jury and litigated countless cases from detention hearings through arraignment and sentencing.

Mr. Lackey has extensive courtroom and trial experience, having presented arguments on dozens of topics during motion hearings, and having tried a wide array of criminal cases. These cases include offenses ranging from burglary and robbery to murder and strict liability for drug induced death, among other charges. Notably, Mr. Lackey stands among a limited number of trial attorneys who have examined experts from numerous specialized fields, such as forensic pathology, toxicology, DNA and serology, forensic chemistry and controlled dangerous substances, ballistics and firearms, the extraction and examination of electronic devices, and GPS/historical cell site location data. During his time in Burlington County, Mr. Lackey also served in the Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Task Force, where he focused on prosecuting individuals charged with weapons offenses, drug distribution, and strict liability for drug induced death. As a member of the Task Force, Mr. Lackey had the unique opportunity of attending the Top Gun training program, an intensive course designed for New Jersey law enforcement on advanced techniques in drug investigations and the execution of search warrants.

During his time as a Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Lackey was assigned to the Gangs and Organized Crime Bureau, where he managed multi-defendant cases and wiretap investigations resulting in charges of racketeering, conspiracy to commit murder, drug production facilities, and firearms trafficking. Following his time in the Gangs and Organized Crime Bureau, Mr. Lackey was assigned to the Office of Securities Fraud and Financial Crimes Prosecutions which concentrates on investigating and prosecuting complex financial crimes.

Mr. Lackey’s dedication to the legal profession extends beyond the courtroom and he is passionate about sharing his knowledge. As such, Mr. Lackey instructed at the New Jersey Advocacy Institute’s trial advocacy program providing valuable insight into areas like direct and cross-examination, witness preparation, and the introduction of evidence during a trial. Furthermore, he serves as an adjunct professor at Rowan College at Burlington County, where he has taught Introduction to Criminal Justice, Introduction to Court Systems, and Introduction to Private Security. Following his graduation from Rutgers University School of Law, Mr. Lackey clerked for the Honorable E. David Millard, P.J. Civ. Div. (retired) in Ocean County Superior Court.
