Brian C. Martel is a Partner and founding member of Torchin Martel Orr, LLC. For almost 25 years, Brian has devoted 100% of his professional practice to family law and related matters, including all aspects of divorce, separation, custody and parenting time, spousal and child support, equitable distribution of property, prenuptial agreements, mediation, arbitration, domestic violence, post-judgment matters, and applications to the New Jersey Appellate Division and Supreme Court.

He employs a strategic, yet empathetic and practical approach to each case, always treating with his clients with the utmost professionalism, dignity and respect. At the same time, Brian has extensive trial experience and he vigorously advocates for his client’s interests and he protects his client’s rights.

Brian has extensive experience in all types of Family Law cases including highly complex litigations, complicated business and other asset valuation issues, interstate/international law issues, etc.
Brian has been recognized by his peers by routinely being included in New Jersey Monthly Magazine as a New Jersey Super Lawyers Rising Star℠ and New Jersey Super Lawyer® every year since 2009, both of which are lists published by Thomson Reuters and which feature no more than 2.5% of all New Jersey attorneys.
Brian also volunteers his time to serve as an Early Settlement Panelist in Bergen County, during which he reviews family law cases and makes recommendations to assist other attorneys and their clients settle their cases. Brian has been selected by the Superior Court to serve as a Blue Ribbon Panelist to assist in mediating ongoing Family Law matters, he has been appointed by the Superior Court to serve as a Guardian Ad Litem to make recommendations regarding custody and child-related matters, he has been appointed by the Superior Court to serve as an Attorney-in-Fact to intervene and assist in high-conflict cases, and he has been retained by other Family Lawyers to serve as a Mediator to resolve cases to avoid proceeding to trial.
Brian is an active member of the American, New Jersey State and New York State Bar Associations, as well as the Family Law sections of the American, New Jersey, Bergen and County Bar Associations. He is also a Barrister in the Barry I. Croland Family Inn of Court.
Prior to beginning his practice in Family Law, Brian served as Law Clerk for the Honorable Edward V. Torack, J.S.C., in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division, Family Part. Through that invaluable experience, Brian had the opportunity to review hundreds of divorce and family-related cases involving all aspects of family law.
Brian received his Juris Doctorate degree from Seton Hall University School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland.
