Highly recommend Elliot Gourvitz

I first met Elliot Gourvitz in 1979 when I asked him to handle my divorce. When we finally got to Court, I was amazed at his grasp of the case and his powers of persuasion over the judge. We subsequently won the case which was appealed, remanded, and appealed again - - all of which we won. Since ...that time, I have used his skills in various other matters of mine, and we have become close friends. He is a rarity among lawyers. He cares for his clients and puts them first in all matters.

Finding a Good Lawyer

After burning through 5 lawyers in two countries and three states I finally found Ari and Elliot Gourvitz. Guys, if you think you’re going to get divorced and that’s the end of it, think again. Ari and Elliot have stuck by me through thick and thin for over 15 years. I can’t imagine working with a...nyone else. I give both of them my heartiest recommendation.

Experience

Rating:  9.4 (Superb)

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2010.

Reciprocal - Discipline issued in NY, 2010

updated on 01/18/2013

This means that the attorney's misconduct in another state, or jurisdiction, also violated the rules for practicing law in New York.

Reprimanded issued in NJ, 2005

updated on 12/11/2014

This means the attorney did something wrong, but the Bar did not suspend the lawyer. Typically in this case the lawyer's poor behavior is exposed to the public in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline
This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2010
Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
