Michael John Rankin

Michael J. Rankin is admitted to practice in the States of New Jersey and New York and the United States District Court of New Jersey, Eastern District of Pennsylvania and Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Mr. Rankin’s practice focuses on civil litigation, including a wide variety of personal injury matters, including motor vehicle accidents, wrongful death claims, premises liability, toxic torts, medical and nursing home malpractice, and Federal Employers' Liability Act claims. He also has extensive experience handling estate litigation matters, commercial and business litigation, landlord-tenant matters, real estate litigation, land use actions, employment litigation, and insurance coverage litigation.

Mr. Rankin also offers a wide variety of transactional services and guidance to his clients involving estate planning and administration, commercial and residential real estate transactions, and general business and corporate services.

Mr. Rankin is committed to representing his clients in a proactive manner to obtain the best possible results for them, while at the same time being cost efficient and keeping them fully apprised on all aspects of their case.

Mr. Rankin is an active member of his community, as he is currently serving as West Caldwell Township’s Planning Board Attorney and a member of Caldwell/West Caldwell’s Juvenile Conference Committee. Mr. Rankin is also the former Chairman of the West Caldwell Township's Zoning Board of Adjustment, Club Officer/Secretary for The Rotary Club of the Caldwells (2018-19 Term) and Chairman of the 2018 Rotary/Kiwanis Caldwell Street Fair.

Also, in 2018, Mr. Rankin was appointed as a Trustee of the Essex County Bar Association, and in 2019, was appointed Vice Chair of the Essex County Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Practice Committee. Mr. Rankin is also a long time member of the New Jersey State Bar Association.

Mr. Rankin attended Widener University School of Law (J.D. 2004) and Rowan University (B.A. 1998). While in law school, Mr. Rankin was an associate editor on the Widener Law Review and an academic support fellow (tutor) for first year law students. He also received the William J. and Ella C. Wolf award in Real Property and Certificates of Achievement in Criminal Procedure and First Amendment Law. He graduated from both law school and college with honors, magna cum laude. Following law school, Mr. Rankin served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Linda R. Feinberg, Assignment Judge, Superior Court of New Jersey, Law Division, Mercer County (Ret.).
