Disappearing Act

We hired Leonardo Puig to represent us through our first home purchase. The process was extremely drawn out due to a complicated seller. In the end, we did get the home and are happily living in it. Mr. Puig was easy to talk to when we actually got to talk with him. His assistant Kim would usuall...y block us from accessing him by phone. She would also scream into the phone when we asked for clarity on an issue or questioned something they wanted us to do. The most frustrating part of our experience has come after our closing, however. Kim managed the switchover of United Water accounts from the seller to us. We sent in our share of the final payment, as did the seller. However, Kim did not send it to United Water by the deadline, so we've been charged penalties and late fees by United Water. In July, I began reaching out to Kim and Mr. Puig, with no success. In addition to seeking reimbursement for the charges accrued due to Kim's error, we are also trying to reach Mr. Puig regarding one lingering issue from closing regarding our new tenant's back rent paid to the previous owner - which we should be getting a portion of. I've sent multiple emails and left numerous voicemails in July, August, September, October, November and now December. Still, no one from Mr. Puig's office has reached out to us with any explanation, remedy, or apology. This is several hundred dollars that we are not receiving due to the lack of response and the neglect we are receiving from the attorney we hired and paid to provide us a smooth home purchase experience.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
