Ghosted me before trial

Mr. Tao was hired to represent me for my contested divorce hearing. He failed to file the appropriate documentation with the courts, causing me to have motions of contempt filed against me. He also failed to answer his telephone and email for the two months prior to my hearing. I am now homeless b...ecause of his neglect. Please be warned- he is dangerously unreliable. I would have done better to represent myself, as he only caused harm to my case. If requested, I will be happy to share the details and documentation related to his contempt hearing and dismissal.

Great lawyer, he handled a landlord dispute excellently.

I hired Shawn in Spring/Summer of 2016 to handle a landlord dispute in Burlington, VT and he was extremely professional every step of the way. I was well-informed throughout the entire process, and I trusted his expertise every step of the way. His empathy and professionalism made this fairly seri...ous dispute feel in my control and well-handled, and I can't recommend him highly enough.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2013.

Reprimand issued in CT, 2013

updated on 11/26/2013

A reprimand is an order from the Statewide Grievance Committee after it has found that an attorney has engaged in ethical misconduct. If an attorney receives more than 3 reprimands in 5 years, a presentment must be filed against the attorney so the Superior Court can decide if more serious discipline should be ordered.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline
This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2013
Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
