Ernest J. Babcock

Ernie Babcock practices general civil litigation and serves as a private mediator. He has accumulated significant legal experience through his extraordinary career. Prior to joining Eaton Peabody, Ernie was with the Federal Bureau of Investigation as Deputy General Counsel for the Investigative and Administrative Law Branch, Deputy Assistant Director, and Privacy and Civil Liberties Officer. He was responsible for managing operational, policy and technical functions, including 80 professionals, for the following legal sections and units: Privacy and Civil Liberties Law Unit; Fiscal and Contract Law Unit; Operational Law Section; Science and Technology Law Section; and Discovery Management Section.

Ernie has served as the Deputy General Counsel of General Dynamics Corporation in Falls Church, Virginia, and Vice President and General Counsel of General Dynamics Land Systems in Sterling Heights, MI. He was also Vice President and General Counsel to Bath Iron Works (a General Dynamics Company) in Bath, Maine where he established the in-house legal function for the company.

Ernie started his career at Pierce Atwood in Maine in 1973 as an associate attorney and then became a partner. In 1984 he was a founding and managing partner of Friedman & Babcock in Portland, Maine.
