Brittany M.R. Sawyer

Brittany Sawyer was my public defending lawyer provided by the courts for my child protective jeopardy case and in the beginning I was very skeptical about a public defender because I have nevertheless had much luck in the past. My experiences from the past where my lawyers have just tried to convinc...e me to plead guilty to the first plea deal that pops up definitely clouded my judgement during my jeopardy case. In the beginning I thought that I wasn’t a bad parent and my children were never in real harms way or jeopardy as the courts define it. I didn’t want to listen to Brittany at my first court appearance and I was not in agreement with the Jeopardy Order so my case was set for trial. Fortunately, By the time my second court appearance was closing in on me, I had spent a tremendous amount of time in group therapy at crossroads and parenting classes and individual counseling that I had realized that Brittany was truly looking out for my best interests trying to convince me to agree with the jeopardy order the first time around because all I did was stretch my DHHS case out longer by several months. I finally agreed with the jeopardy order provided by DHHS and started my reunification process but my son’s father wanted to take it to trial which was scheduled for months down the road and he lost his trial anyways and still had to complete all the requests from DHHS as specified in our jeopardy order. All it did was prolong the end result and Briattany tried to tell me that a thousand times over and I never listened or was too stubborn. Once I realized that I had made mistakes and my children could have ended up in harms way as a result of my behavior, I was able to see that my lawyer and my case worker were not out to get me or steal my children.. They were truly there to help me and help my children and their goal was to reunite my family. Once I realized all of that, I saw just how much Brittany was trying to get through to me, she never let me go to a meeting alone without representation.. she had my back and fought for me throughout all of our DHHS monthly meetings designed to review my progress and check on the kiddos and I slowly started earning privileges with my kids back. Brittany went above and beyond her regular duty of a court appointed lawyer and even helped me file for a divorce and finished my divorce case free of charged and helped me with an eviction/FED process so I could get back into my home. I honest to god, would not have made it through any of the legal aspects of my cases had it not been for her help, honesty, her attention to me and my kids. I can honestly write this review and admit that I have NEVER had a lawyer be so attentive to my needs and fight for me when she knew I deserved it. I would HIGHLY recommend Brittany Sawyer as a lawyer for any family related case and more!!
