David J. Van Baars

A significant amount of my practice is in the area of landlord/tenant law representing numerous landlords in forcible entry and detainer (eviction) actions as well as collections, discrimination claims, and drafting of leases and related documents.  I am routinely in a number of local District courts for eviction hearings and I am able to reduce client costs by apportioning my time amongst clients.  I have also represented tenants on a number of occasions, assisting them in obatining return of security deposits, defending against unwarranted evictions, and dealing with habitability and discrimination issues related to their housing.  I have authored numerous articles on landlord/tenant issues and authored Maine Landlord/Tenant Statutes and Commentaries, a bi-annual compilation of all Maine statutes relating to the landlord/tenant field, along with comments as to their applicability.  This is still published by my former employer, with updates to my original work.

I am also available to help clients with wills, trusts, deeds and contract issues.
