Corey MacDonald is the founder of MacDonald Law, PC and Black Lion Services, PLLC. With nearly three decades of experience spanning law, law enforcement, and prosecution, Corey brings both depth and perspective to the people, families, and businesses he serves across New Hampshire and beyond.
Since founding MacDonald Law in 2005, Corey has built a New Hampshire–based litigation practice centered on guiding individuals and families through some of life's most difficult moments. The firm focuses on all aspects of family law, from divorce and parenting disputes to complex post-divorce matters, and also handles select state-level criminal defense cases. Known for stepping into challenging and highly sensitive cases, the firm is often trusted with referrals from attorneys throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Whether navigating high-net-worth asset division, closely held business disputes, parental alienation, or domestic violence matters, Corey and his team approach every case with steady leadership, strategic advocacy, and genuine care for the families involved.
In 2020, Corey launched Black Lion Services to provide outside general counsel services to businesses and select individual clients. The firm works with domestic and international companies in sports, entertainment, footwear, and medical supply chain industries. He proudly serves as outside general counsel to USA Rugby, supporting the organization that oversees rugby in the United States, including its Olympic teams. His work in entertainment includes serving as counsel and community coordinator for Goonies House, LLC, connected to the beloved 1985 film The Goonies, a role that reflects his appreciation for community-driven projects that bring people together.
Before practicing law full-time, Corey served for over 18 years in law enforcement, rising from detective to Chief of Detectives for the City of Portsmouth and later Deputy Chief of Police. He also served three years as City Prosecutor, trying hundreds of cases in District Court. During that time, he was appointed by former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder as New Hampshire's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force Commander. His honorable early retirement as Deputy Chief allowed him to dedicate himself fully to his growing practice and to serving clients at a deeper level.
Corey has been recognized as one of New Hampshire's Top Forty Under 40, named Young Professional of the Year, and selected as one of 's “Top 10 to Watch.” He serves on the Board of Directors for the New Hampshire Association for Justice and co-chairs its Family Law Section. Beyond his professional work, he is actively involved on several nonprofit boards throughout the Seacoast, supporting organizations focused on wilderness preservation, youth at risk, and the arts.
A proud member of the Seacoast community, Corey has built his career serving the very region he calls home. His work is rooted in a deep respect for the people, families, and local businesses that make New Hampshire strong. For Corey, the practice of law isn't just about cases, it's about standing beside his neighbors, protecting what matters most to them, and giving back to the community that shaped him.

Lawyers, guns, and money
I hired Corey to take my case after being contacted by the local police department. They had left a message that there was a warrant out for my arrest. A witness alleged I had waved a gun out of a window, and they brought up felony charges. Corey was very calm and in control of the situation from the...
