He contacted me to release a mortgage I held for a friend. He was not hired by me…maybe bank or seller or buyer. He said they would send me a check upon me sending a notarized mortgage/lien release, which they supplied. His firm was the Settlement Attorneys on this property. I sent overnite the rel...ease . They recorded the release and had another attorney send me a check overnite for $100K. Drawn on Bank of America (same as my bank). Next day went to bank! They wouldn’t deposit check because it wouldn’t clear!!! Called Jim Iacoi, FROM the bank! He patronized me that the check wasn’t his and he doesn’t control procedures from other atttys! He says calm down no big deal, things happen. WTF! I sure did what they asked me to do. In addition, He was the settlement atty! He’s 100% on the hook for his deceitful crony attys actions. Went to bank AGAIN, he spoke with them thru my phone, they ran check again-NO GOOD! I had to get my atty involved to get his cohorts to WIRE my funds! His condescending attitude was more of the issue. Like it’s my fault for depositing the check. Yet they sold , closed , and recorded the property I released a day earlier!! NEVER take a check at a closing from ANY atty! They wire OR you don’t release. Lesson learned.
