Andrew Berg was appointed by the court to represent me in a Rhode Island Superior Court criminal appeal. My experience with his representation was disappointing. Communication was difficult, and I did not believe my questions and concerns about important evidence were adequately investigated or resol...ved. I repeatedly raised concerns about the measurement, inspection, and preservation of the knife evidence. In a May 2023 text, Mr. Berg told me that he agreed the knife charge should have been dismissed and that he did not think it would be a problem at that level. Nevertheless, I did not feel that my requests concerning that evidence were adequately addressed during his representation. I was first informed by Mr. Berg of the State’s proposed terms on the day of the July 10, 2023 Frye hearing. That was when I learned that the proposal included a permanent no-trespass condition. I declined the proposal. I had also informed Mr. Berg before the hearing that I wanted him to withdraw. This review reflects my personal experience as his court-appointed client. I did not receive the preparation, communication, or advocacy I expected, and I would not hire or recommend him.
