Kenneth Joseph Vacovec

I worked extensively with him on a foreign OVDI tax issue. He and his paralegal made multiple mistakes (that they billed me to correct), they overcharge, and they do not respond to emails or phone calls in a timely manner. They also were prepared to send paperwork to the IRS that was incorrect. I f...ound the errors and some of them were truly careless, like dollar to foreign currency conversion errors. Other reviews on the web noted the same issues. I wish I had seen them before working with this law firm. I strongly recommend working with a different firm.

When my father passed away, I explored using Attorney Vacovec to help settle his estate sice my father had set up his Will and Estate Plan with Vacovec's office. After a couple of phone calls and a meeting at Vacovec's office to understand the process and expense for Vacovec to settle my father's ...estate and to revise my mother's estate plan, I notified Attorney Vacovec that we decided to use another attorney. Vacovec sent us $1500 in invoices and subtracted fees for himself and a junior attorney from a retainer that my father set up for a different purpose. We did NOT sign the engagement letter and instead told Vacovec that we were going to use another firm. After requesting that all funds be returned (except for $250 to cover expenses to send my copies of the Will and Estate Plan documents), I received a confrontational 2 page letter from Vacovec saying that I would not be refunded as the $1500 was justified. I do not recommend that anyone do business with Ken Vacovec or his junior Attorney Les Hoiberg.

I spoke to Ken Vacovec about the OVDI program; a local CPA referred me to him because she knew the firm focused on international tax issues. Rather than providing guidance and advice for my situation, he only wanted to answer specific questions; he did not appear to be very familiar with the program... and gave me a lot of information that was either not helpful or downright incorrect. When I mentioned that I felt the information was potentially and asked him to double check it, he did--confirming what I already knew and billing at a high rate for researching information that could easily be found on Google and which I feel that a lawyer experienced in international tax matters should not have had to look up at all. I ended up choosing to work with another firm for my international tax compliance issues.
