Attorney Gavin makes money from the troubled teen industry (TTI). We hired her for help to fund mental health treatment for our suicidal son. We did not know we had entered the pipeline into the troubled teen industry. But Gavin, a knowledgeable attorney with decades of experience, surely knew. W...hen we started to question whether these treatment centers were truly places of healing, she defended them as legit and credible -- which contributed to us keeping him in the TTI system months longer than if we'd not had her assuring us we were doing the right thing. (Thereby extending his exposure to trauma, while earning her and the treatment center more of our money). I am very sorry to my son for not listening to my gut feelings and "trusting the process" -- and trusting the wrong people -- including Gavin, ed consultants, etc. When we hired Gavin, we were in desperate need of help and very vulnerable. Now in hindsight, I've learned there are scores of lawsuits, years of documented abuse and a routine practice of treatment centers being shutdown and reopening under new names -- all a world I didn't understand at the time: but Gavin did. When we stopped emailing her because we were focusing on getting our kid OUT of these places, the only time we heard from her was to remind us we owed her money and she'd be adding interest -- no compassion or concern for our experience. Hiring her only kept us involved in the industry several months longer than had we not had her "counsel." She purports to having an office in Brookline, but we live in Brookline and never once saw her in person. She is always in NH, "working from home." We were in a situation where we didn't know if our kid was going to live or die -- and all she cared about was being paid and showed no true compassion for our situation or child. Find someone else. Also, be a critical thinker, read through the google and yelp reviews of the TTI centers and give them SOME credence: the reviews were more accurate and forthcoming than Gavin's "professional," expensive advice.
