$35.4 million verdict in the case of a 28-year-old woman who suffered a hemorrhagic stroke hours after delivery of her baby daughter.
$24.4 million verdict involving a child who suffered severe short bowel syndrome requiring permanent tube feeding as a result of doctors’ negligence.
$3 million settlement for the death of a restrained 23-year-old mentally ill patient at Bridgewater State Hospital resulting in sweeping systemic changes.
Attorney Zahka also contributed to the successful defense of a highly publicized appeal of a record-setting verdict, in which the claim of a physician’s practice group that it was entitled to a $20, cap on damages due to its alleged “charitable” status was defeated, leading to the judgment in excess of $33 million being affirmed.
Attorney Zahka received her undergraduate degree from Boston University (B.A. Political Science & Psychology). She graduated from Suffolk University Law School (J.D.) where she served as continuity editing assistant for The Journal of Health and Biomedical Law and was also recognized for her time and commitment to volunteer legal services through the Pro Bono Program.
