Martin J. Rooney

A senior shareholder in a firm emphasizing the defense of complex civil litigation cases and the representation of governmental entities.  Responsible for the planning and completion of all discovery; case evaluation and strategy; negotiation of settlements; the trial of both jury and non-jury matters in all courts and agencies; and appeals.  Personal caseload concentrates in the areas of governmental entity defense litigation, premises liability (including premises security matters), civil rights and employment litigation, products liability, First Amendment, consumer protection and auto cases, and housing discrimination.  Also responsible for advising various governmental entities on the full range of issues typically faced including employment, open meeting issues/public records issues, contracting and regulatory compliance.   Regularly handle construction cases and insurance coverage matters, as well as toxic tort litigation.  Individual cases handled have ranged in size from major civil rights - class action suits and catastrophic personal injury cases and wrongful death claims to generic premises liability or routine auto matters.  Supervise associates in all aspects of their training.  Tried approximately 70+ cases, including matters in federal courts and state courts throughout New England, and before various administrative agencies, and have handled 25 appellate matters.
