Not a good choice

My trouble with Swomley and Associates began almost imideately when John Swomley showed up at least two hours late to my Monday arraignment. After at least five frantic phone calls he finally showed up and claimed that he forgot (even though I had engaged his services that weekend). When my name was ...first called I had to go up to the front of the court and awkwardly tell the judge my attorney had not yet arrived. He also provided a quote to the Boston Globe about my case without first reaching out to me. Although the quote was somewhat benign I would have strongly preferred he reach out to me before answering all media requests. He was also disorganized and took two weeks to send me a contract for his services. It felt like I had to track HIM down to schedule a full intake with his associate. What was most irritating was that he seemed completely unaware that I was entitled to a clerk's hearing. The failure of the police to provide me a clerk's hearing eventually allowed my new attorney to successfully dismiss and expunge my case. However, if I had continued to be represented by Swomley who knows how long I would have continued to languish in the legal system. I would encourage perspective clients to seek out a lawyer who is more punctual, organized, and knowledgable about the law. At least when you throw money in a fire it can provide kindling- when you give it to Swomley it does nothing.

John Swomley

outstanding guy, respected, knowledgeable from begining to end. I don't plan on needing a criminal defense lawyer, but if I do end up needing one he is the one for sure. Thanks Mr. Swomley for all you've for me and my family.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
