Years ago, on Father’s Day, I gifted my father a dictaphone so he could transmit the stories of his life, which I endlessly enjoyed hearing about as a little girl. While I could not change the flow of time, I yearned to hold onto the endearing sound of my father’s voice. The recorder became a vessel that captured his deeply rooted values, his wisdom and so much more. Since my father’s passing, these recordings transformed into a treasure. While life is limited to a certain number of years on this earth, these recordings serve to preserve and perpetuate the impact and connection my father continues to have with his grandchildren, some of whom only know him through the sound of his voice, his worldly insights and his captivating stories of survival.

I share this story as a way of revealing that planning during our lifetime enriches our life and the lives of those who will receive our legacy.
