Excellent lawyer, highly recommend
Carla Leone is an excellent lawyer to work with. We needed an advocate and a Special Education lawyer to help get our School District to provide FAPE for our child, and Carla was able to do both. She attended IEP meetings, and helped with the IEP. Her support and knowledge helped us better advocate for a more appropriate IEP for our child. She also helped resolve the other issue which was that the school district placement was not an appropriate placement for our child's educational needs. Carla filed a due process hearing with the Bureau of Special Education Appeals (BSEA) to try and resolve this issue, which was complicated because it also involved the breach of a settlement agreement and the district won't even admit or talk about that breach. Litigation was the only option to get them to be held accountable. We made it clear that we will go through with due process at BSEA, then state court or Federal. Carla was clear and concise at explaining the entire process and what to expect like the strategic approach, the potential timeframes and litigation costs. Our School District is known for being difficult and for their delay tactics and unreasonable pushbacks. The District did stall for as long as they can possibly can...they even wanted us to agree to postpone the BSEA hearing because an agreement “is close” but we refused. They consistently delayed their responses so it took weeks of back and forth, trying to settle. They stalled up to the day and time of the Prehearing Date of our BSEA Case. The end result was a settlement agreement that we are happy with. We highly recommend Carla. She is experienced, professional, and outstanding at written and verbal communication: efficient, detailed, easy to comprehend, and tenacious.

Nothing but dedicated
Carla was professional, hardworking and at the core dedicated to the child she was representing. She cares deeply for the cause but represents the case efficiently, factually and confidently. She has been a pleasure to work with and truly understands educational law as well as the experience of parent and child.

Carla knows school law like no other! She assisted us in winning reimbursement for our child's tuition costs. Carla was thorough, informative, personable, in every way a part of our team in our settlement. In a case such as ours, I can't imagine someone better to work with - we're so fortunate to have benefited from her knowledge and expertise!

Endlessly knowledgeable and an astute and highly effective special education advocate.
Carla understands the schools from the inside out in terms of special education law. Every penny you spend working with I will be returned a thousand fold in terms of your ability to sleep comfortably at night knowing your children have the appropriate services and the schools act in accordance with the laws. She is updated timely and tactical. I would not hesitate to refer to any family seeking advocacy for their child.

parent of a child with special needs
We have a child with special needs, and have been working with Carla over the past few years to appropriately place our son in the correct educational settings as he has grown and his needs have changed. Carla not only has vast expertise in special education law, but she is also a tireless advocate for children's educational rights, and a truly compassionate individual. Carla is a consummate professional and very responsive, but just as importantly, she is caring and easy to work with during what can be a very emotional, difficult time for parents.

Very Satisfied!
Carla did a wonderful job handling my case against the local school system. She was thorough, compassionate and took the time needed to speak to both me and my son to make sure she understood every aspect of the case. She gave great advice, was always available to answer questions and give guidance. She was fair in her fees and extremely knowledgeable. She really cares about getting children the services they need and deserve. We were extremely satisfied with her services. My son finally got the services he deserved and is flourishing in his new placement. I highly recommend her! She is by far the best attorney I have ever used.

Excellent special education parent attorney and advocate
My wife and I have retained several different lawyers and advocates over the past 8 years on behalf of our son who was diagnosed at age two with PDD-NOS. Carla was by far the best. Carla has a strong understanding of special education law, excellent oral and written communication skills, and an outstanding attention to detail. She came to each meeting with the school fully prepared and with the issues to be discussed thoroughly researched from a legal perspective. Carla kept us apprised throughout our negotiations with the school system and after each meeting provided us with detailed session notes. Due to Carla’s efforts my wife and I were able to avoid extensive litigation and reached an amicable agreement with the school system. But by far, Carla’s best attribute is that she is highly personable and engaged. While Carla has a busy practice, each time we interacted with her we felt as if our son was the only child on her caseload. We very much trust her judgment, and have recommended her to friends.
