About me

I grew up in the Flathead Valley in Montana. After High School I attended Montana State University in Bozeman, receiving a B.A. degree in English Literature in 1976. After a year and a half as a bank officer in Minnesota and Wisconsin, I decided to become a lawyer and enrolled in University of Puget Sound School of Law in 1978. I was awarded a J.D. degree in May 1981, sat for the Washington State Bar Examination in July 1981, and, after passing the exam on my first try, in October 1981 the State Supreme Court licensed me to practice law in Washington. Since then I have been licensed to practice before the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Washington (1986) and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals (2011). At times in the past I served as a judge pro tem in Chelan County Superior Court, Chelan County District Court, and Douglas County District Court. and as a Court Commissioner in Grant County Superior Court. My Service to the State Bar Association includes service on a number of Bar Association committees, boards, and panels, including the Hearing Officer Panel, Bar Examiners Committee (writing questions for the State Bar examination and grading answers to determine legal competency of applicants for admission to the Washington State Bar Association), Fee Arbitration Panel, and MCLE Board. Formerly I was an adjunct professor teaching real estate law, and later business law, at Wenatchee Valley College. As of 2015 my practice is general in nature although I emphasize litigation, particularly, but not only, employment  litigation. I have practiced in Wenatchee since 1981, but have had cases in U.S. District Court, various superior courts or administrative agencies in several counties including Chelan, Douglas, Grant, Okanagon, Adams, Benton, King, Thurston, and Mason Counties, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, and Division 3 of the State Court of Appeals. I love the outdoors and over the years have been an avid motorcycle rider, bicycle rider, baseball player, snow skier, boater, water skier, swimmer, golfer, hunter, and hiker. My lovely wife of 40 years and I have two fabulous children, a wonderful daughter-in-law, one gorgeous granddaughter, and another grandchild due April 2016.

I endorse Lew Card as he is an excellent lawyer. For over 25 years I have watched him work in North Central Washington courtrooms. He has been my opponent more than once. We have worked together on the same legal team. He is smart, hard working and if I needed a lawyer to represent me, he would be the one I would call.
