If all parties (mom, biological father, step dad) are in agreement with adoption, is it required to go through a lawer?

Parties are never "required" to use an attorney to access the courthouse. The question is better phrased as "should we use a lawyer?" The answer is, "it depends." How comfortable are you that you can do this yourself? Do you know what papers will need to be filed with the court? Do you know what information must be in the documents? I'm age 19 and I would like to be legally adopted. How much will this cost?

An adult may elect to be adopted by a new parent or parents in Oregon. It's cheap and simple. To do this however, you must terminate the rights of your current parents. Doing so would mean you are no longer their child for any purposes. For example, you would no longer be an heir, although it wouldn't necessarily prevent your parents from leaving you part of their estate when they die.
