Ellen has represented me in several legal matters. The first time, six years ago, she negotiated a complicated settlement agreement with my former employer that involved payment from an Irrevocable Trust, which contained complex tax issues. Throughout the negotiations, Ellen advised me of the risks and the alternatives available, presented me with the most cost effective way to proceed, kept me apprised of the latest developments, and always promptly answered my emails. Through her expertise, tenacity, and firm stance with opposing counsel, Ellen obtained a settlement that far exceeded my expectations.
Last year, I was to be deposed, but was bed-ridden in Florida due to a spinal injury. Ellen arranged with counsel for a Sunday deposition, took a Friday red-eye flight from San Francisco to Key West, Florida, prepped me on Saturday afternoon, sat with me through the two hour deposition on Sunday, and was on a plane three hours later back to California; she billed me for only three hours, plus airfare. Ellen is not only professional, ethical, trustworthy and knowledgeable in her field; she is also warm, caring and her client's best interest is always paramount. Thank-you Ellen!
Ellen McKissock was the lead attorney for our trust and estate litigation case when we hired Hopkins & Carley to represent us in our personal capacity and protect our interests. They failed in every way and we ended up needing more protection from these attorneys than from opposing council. Ellen made a lot of promises up front and seemed to be knowledgeable but unfortunately she had to research almost every bit of case law to present any arguments, and this inevitably made our bill an astonishing bit higher. While she may have legal smarts, her ethics and billing practices are not inline with what should be legal standards. When we requested a settlement discussion she ignored our requests. At one point she sent us an insulting email full of allegations proving that she never had our back as an attorney. I would not recommend Ellen McKissock based on our experience as well as the fact that they did not achieve anything for our case but billed us over 100K in 1.5 months. As a warning to other consumers of legal services out there - be careful on the promises made when Ellen is selling you her services.
