I first went to see Constance for a case where my juvenile child was requesting new guardianship. We reviewed the situation in full. She stated (basically) that she could represent me (and charge me accordingly); but that there was little difference I (or she) would be able to do in this situation. Now, she could have just taken thousands of my dollars, representing me; but instead she told me the truth and suggested that since I knew the case and was articulate - - that I could represent myself (which I did). Later, Constance represented me in a child support case. The courts were asking me for $1800/mo... with Constance's help, the amount was reduced to $600/mo.
When I recently had need of legal counsel, on the recommendation of several friends I contacted the firm of Carpenter and Mayfield. Constance Carpenter and Day Mayfield were great. They talked with me, analyzed my case and presented the options, and went to work to get issues resolved. They responded promptly to my phone calls, kept me informed every step of the way, and in my opinion did an outstanding job for me in winning my case. I recommend them without reservation. As I was told by the friends who recommended them, they go the extra mile for their clients. Their work is solid and their fees were fair....and they are great to work with.
I wish I could say something positive...but if you are a person who wants to be represented in a divorce and be kept up to date, have phone calls/emails returned, know that when you ask something to be done; it will get done and feel that you are being represented by an attorney who works for you, then don't use Constance. I am not bitter or angry just was misinformed and that cost me a lot. I was told she was a ambitious, hard working, dedicated attorney and I found out the hard way, and just want to save someone else the same results as me.
She is a very nice person but I don't think her heart or passion is in this anymore.
Told me the chances and guide me to take the best solution to handle the case, the result is exactly as she predicated before the trial. Very satisfacted!
Constance is good at twisting facts and engaging in misrepresentation bordering on fraud all for self-serving purposes. Intimidation, threats to abandon you if you don't keep the retainer account filled at all times, etc.
I hired her as references said she was excellent at wiping out your ex in a divorce case. I later regretted her judgment and counsel as it harmed many people, including my children, and it made me wonder at what costs Constance's "victories" are obtained. I asked her several times to tone things down and she threatened to drop representation unless I comply with her aggressive (and intimidatory) approach. Looking back I wish I had not worked with her.
So if you are looking to take the high road, even in a bitter divorce, for the benefit of the children and others Constance is not for you. If you however want to win and wipe out everybody, including your children and yourself, and pay a lot of money for that pleasure Constance may be the person for you.
