Steve is a really great guy. Also, he is a very well-informed attorney. Steve is extremely knowledgeable about my particular needs. Specifically, I needed to do some estate planning and he made the process of breeze. I felt very comfortable with his fund of knowledge and his ability to navigate through all of the pitfalls with this particularly difficult task. Now all of my living will is finalized and I am good to go. He is honest and easy to talk to. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

I have known Steve Greenwood for many years through our affiliation with the National Association of Insurance and Financial Services professional organization. Having spent many years in the financial services business as a Managing Partner with New York Life one of my responsibilities was to refer my agents to attorneys who could assist them in helping their clients with their estate planning. Steve was at the top of the list as he is very competent in all aspects of estate planning.
Naturally, when it came time to update my family trust, Steve was the one I called. My wife and I appreciated the time Steve took with us in explaining our estate. Not only was he very patient and thorough but his attentiveness to detail made us very comfortable in understanding the intricacies involved.
I highly recommend Steve and will be referring him to family and friends as this type of planning should be a priority for everyone.

My wife and I engaged Mr. Greenwood to set-up a living trust for our estate. We were impressed by his very organized process to establish a plan which would be best suited to our needs. He patiently answered our many questions and developed a summary of the plan in layman's language which we reviewed before the formal documentation was created. This was very helpful. Mr. Greenwood is a good listener, has excellent knowledge in this field of law, is highly attentive to detail, takes great pride in his work, laid out the terms, products, schedule, and costs up front - and stuck to it.

Steve handled a very complicated legal case for me. He gave me wonderful legal advice. He spoke in laymans terms so I understood every aspect of my case. I have referred several friends to Steve and they have been very satisfied. I would call Steve in the future should I ever need him.

  • Sloppy attorney. Trust was riddled with mistakes. Had to hire another lawyer to review Steve's work

We came to Mr. Greenwood on a recommendation from our bank to establish our Family Trust. At first, Steve appeared to be a knowledgeable and personable attorney. After several meetings to discuss the details of our Trust, we were presented with final documents to sign and notarize. Unfortunately, our Trust came to us incomplete. There were missing documents and the Trust was riddled misspelling of our name, heirs and trustees. If you cannot trust your lawyer to handle the small stuff of a Trust, you cannot trust the lawyer with the big stuff. Our notary commented that she had never seen so many mistakes in a Trust. We are now in the process of recouping our costs and have since hired another attorney to review our Trust.

Steven Matlin Greenwood’s response: “After dozens of 5 star reviews, this was bound to happen. After over 30 years of practicing law, I have finally met the first one who will not let me finish the work we started. It is truly unfortunate that no matter how much I try to meet a clients expectations, there is always going to be one who cannot be satisfied no matter what we reasonably offer to do. After working with this client for over a year, he and his wife moved to another county. After preparing all documents in final form, we forwarded them for signing. As happens on rare occasion (who here has never made a mistake?), there were two spelling errors that, due to the document preparation software we use, flowed into a number of documents. Upon learning of this "scrivener's error", I immediately offered to correct the minor spelling errors made. The client then insisted that I refund all or most of the fee paid. I found this request totally unfair and repeated my offer to fix the error(s) in question. The client to this date has refused my offer and desire to make his documentation right. No claim of substantive error was ever made. "Riddled with mistakes"? Hardly. Two input errors. "Missing documents"? After several requests, I still do not know what is missing. Whatever ever was "missing" could easily be replaced, had it been asked for. An easy and quick repair was and is offered. This client apparently believes that after 95% of the work is completed and refusing me the opportunity to fix these minor errors, that he should receive all of his money back. Again patently unfair. Clearly this angry and unreasonable individual is more interested in libeling me than receiving the perfectly viable and effective estate plan I promised and which he now refuses to receive. It will be interesting hear what the newly hired attorney has to say. I welcome his or her comments. This poor rating was given because this person clearly has no clue how sophisticated legal documentation is created, and believes that due to exceptionally minor data input mistake, I cannot be trusted with the "big stuff". Certainly he is entitled to his opinion, no matter how wrong or hurtful. I remain committed to finishing this process. Let's see if he will let me.”
