Sloppy attorney. Trust was riddled with mistakes. Had to hire another lawyer to review Steve's work

We came to Mr. Greenwood on a recommendation from our bank to establish our Family Trust. At first, Steve appeared to be a knowledgeable and personable attorney. After several meetings to discuss the details of our Trust, we were presented with final documents to sign and notarize. Unfortunately, our Trust came to us incomplete. There were missing documents and the Trust was riddled misspelling of our name, heirs and trustees. If you cannot trust your lawyer to handle the small stuff of a Trust, you cannot trust the lawyer with the big stuff. Our notary commented that she had never seen so many mistakes in a Trust. We are now in the process of recouping our costs and have since hired another attorney to review our Trust.

Steven Matlin Greenwood’s response: “After dozens of 5 star reviews, this was bound to happen. After over 30 years of practicing law, I have finally met the first one who will not let me finish the work we started. It is truly unfortunate that no matter how much I try to meet a clients expectations, there is always going to be one who cannot be satisfied no matter what we reasonably offer to do. After working with this client for over a year, he and his wife moved to another county. After preparing all documents in final form, we forwarded them for signing. As happens on rare occasion (who here has never made a mistake?), there were two spelling errors that, due to the document preparation software we use, flowed into a number of documents. Upon learning of this "scrivener's error", I immediately offered to correct the minor spelling errors made. The client then insisted that I refund all or most of the fee paid. I found this request totally unfair and repeated my offer to fix the error(s) in question. The client to this date has refused my offer and desire to make his documentation right. No claim of substantive error was ever made. "Riddled with mistakes"? Hardly. Two input errors. "Missing documents"? After several requests, I still do not know what is missing. Whatever ever was "missing" could easily be replaced, had it been asked for. An easy and quick repair was and is offered. This client apparently believes that after 95% of the work is completed and refusing me the opportunity to fix these minor errors, that he should receive all of his money back. Again patently unfair. Clearly this angry and unreasonable individual is more interested in libeling me than receiving the perfectly viable and effective estate plan I promised and which he now refuses to receive. It will be interesting hear what the newly hired attorney has to say. I welcome his or her comments. This poor rating was given because this person clearly has no clue how sophisticated legal documentation is created, and believes that due to exceptionally minor data input mistake, I cannot be trusted with the "big stuff". Certainly he is entitled to his opinion, no matter how wrong or hurtful. I remain committed to finishing this process. Let's see if he will let me.”

    Peace of Mind at Last!!

My husband and I had put off doing our family trust far too long. But with a major surgery looming, we were up against a deadline. After researching and interviewing numerous attorneys, we were unable to find someone that we was a good fit for us. We feel extremely fortunate that Steven Greenwood was recommended to us. From the first visit, we were overwhelmed with his knowledge and expertise, all dellivered in his gracious and competent manner. We were impressed that he was willing to work off hours, and took extra time meeting with us to address our needs and concerns and to patiently explain the terms of the trust, what steps we should consider in the future and the importance of revisiting the trust periodically. We can't thank Steven enough for taking this load off of our shoulders. We are happy and relieved, with 100% confidence that we made the right decision.

Competent, Clear and Put Us at Ease

Building and estate plan and selecting an appropriate attorney was a major decision for my wife and me. It requires soul searching and thoughtfulness that is not part of many people's daily routine so it required lots of focus and effort to understand and deal with the many issues involved. Steve's guiding hand and expert advice made a difficult and potential unsettling process very comfortable. We came away with a very strong sense of purpose, a clear understanding of personal goals and a road map to make sure our wishes are carried out as we have laid them out.

    Estate Planning

Steve established our trust in 2007 and then helped us in updating it this year. We have been very happy with his work - he is straightforward, patient, knowledgeable and easy to communicate with. I would recommend him and have recommended him to others.

    Commendation for professionalism and service

My wife and I have had the distinct pleasure of retaining the services of Steven Greenwood on behalf of our family trust and the requisite amendment updates that were needed. Steve's high touch and personable approach began with an comprehensive introductory discussion and explanation on the current trust law, accompanied by a CD for our own review; he was meticulous in answering our questions and explaining the consequences of certain key succession decisions and charitable allocations. His advice was at all times tailored to our personal circumstances and rendered with our best interests at heart. The trust amendments were completed and delivered efficiently within a very timely manner. We were especially impressed with the follow through program offered as part of the overall trust package and that provided us with unimpeded access to his services for a number of issues that we raised following completion of the trust process. We unreservedly recommend Steven Greenwood to anyone seeking guidance on trust issues from a highly skilled professional in a reassuring, informative and highly personal setting .
