|I am an attorney concentrating my practice in the areas of Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and breach of warranty litigation, and handle consumer/debtor complaints throughout the states of Illinois and Florida.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Spanish, with honors, from Illinois Wesleyan University, in May of 2000. I went on to earn my Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law, in May of 2004.
I was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 2004 and the Florida Bar in 2005. I am also licensed to practice law before the United States District Court for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois, and the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida.
I speak Spanish fluently, and have lived abroad in Spain and Venezuela.
Prior to opening the Law Offices of Matthew W. Kiverts, I worked as an associate attorney in both the areas of FDCPA and breach of warranty at boutique law firm located in Chicago. I also have extensive experience in the areas of consumer bankruptcy (chapter 7 and 13) and unemployment law, having also worked as an associate attorney at Kaplan & Sorosky, Ltd., in Chicago, and as an Administrative Hearing Officer in Miami for the state of Florida, where I presided over 2,000 unemployment appeal hearings.
