Do I qualify for short term disability after settling my workman's comp claim?

Asked by a user in Chicago, IL - 7 months ago.

The first thing you should consider is if you agravated your injury. If it was agravated at work you have another work comp case. Everytime you Hirt your back at work you have a new case. If you did not hurt it at work again then short term disability is an option.

Do i have to take weekly benefits for life or can i get a lump sum payment if im permanently disabled?

Asked by a user in Chicago Heights, IL - 7 months ago.

Great question. Sometimes you are better off with a lump sum and sometimes you are better of with weekly payments. Under the law you are only owed weekly benefits in a work comp case but when there is a settlement there is usually a lump sum payout and closure of open medical.
