About Me

Theresa (Traci) A. Capistrant has been a Family Law practitioner for over twenty (20) years. Raised in North Saint Paul, Minnesota, she graduated from the University of Minnesota, with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1985 and attended William Mitchell College of Law, graduating cum laude in 1988. Traci began her legal career as an attorney with the Oppenheimer Law Firm out of law school. She moved in January of 1991 to the law firm of Peterson, Fishman and Livgard, P.A. as an associate, becoming a named partner in July of 1993.  Though initially Traci had a mixed, general practice, over the years, Family Law became the bulk of her practice. Peterson, Fishman, Livgard and Capistrant, P.L.L.P. practiced together as a firm until January of 2001. Thereafter, Traci launched Capistrant & Associates in 2001, which is now known as Capistrant Law, P.A.

Traci's practice is now focused exclusively on Family Law, from simple, straightforward divorces, to complex custody and financial litigation. She has extensive experience with divorces, first and third-party custody cases, child support, complex financial cases, property division, post decree issues, paternity, name changes, step-parent adoptions, orders for protection, and revision or drafting of wills once the family law matter is complete.  Traci has resolved many cases through settlement but has also proceeded with others through the formal trial process. As a Rule 114 Qualified Neutral, trained Child-Inclusive Mediator, litigator, and a Social Early Neutral (ENE) evaluator for Anoka, Ramsey and Washington Counties and privately, Traci has a multitude of ways to help clients through life's difficult transitions. A founding member of the Cooperative Practice Network of Minnesota, Traci serves on its Executive Committee, and participates in and has been a speaker at its monthly luncheons.  Cooperative Law is another tool she uses to assist parties through their Family Law matter in a respectful and self-guided manner.
