    May 18, 2012
    Outcome:
Defendant receives 3 years after facing life sentence.
    Description:
Billy Gilbert pleaded guilty to reduced charges in January in exchange for prosecutors dropping murder, involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault charges against him that arose from the death of Eric Witcher after an Oct. 28, 2009, fight at Luna del Mar bar in Lorain. Prosecutors acknowledged at the time of the plea that they would have had difficulty linking Gilbert to Witcher’s death based on the evidence they had. Several other men pled out to manslaughter charges in the case.
