Ken Ortner was appointed GAL on a child custody case. He spent the bare minimum time on our case. He was clearly friends with the other attorney, gravitated toward them on court dates, seen laughing and talking with them. He also spent a total of 30 minutes on our home visit and did nothing except take pictures of the rooms in the house and asked only questions that would validate the concerns of the other party involved. Also, he didn t show up to conduct the home visit until about 12 hours before the initial settlement conference and didn t interview my daughter until after. He didn t check cupboards to see if there was food, he didn t observe the kids playing together. Also, he apparently thought he had a license to un-diagnose my child with ADHD after spending a total of an hour with her. He is incredibly unprofessional and I would not recommend him to ANYONE!

I hired Mr. Ortner to handle my divorce. I met with him and explained what I wanted in my divorce decree. My ex had agreed with me to accept the conditions. Mr. Ortner assured me that there would be no problem. Although I called numerous times, he did not provide me with a copy of the write up until the day before our court date. He then sent me a generic divorce decree with NONE of the conditions I required. Since the agreement involved young children and their father was extremely violent, it was urgent that the agreement be correct. My ex insisted that he wanted the "new" agreement which caused numerous problems. When we went to court, Mr. Ortner didn't have any of the papers we needed for our hearing. He tried to tell me that it was my ex's lawyer who was required to bring them, but he wouldn't say that in front of the other lawyer. He held up our hearing while his people got the paperwork. I would represent myself before I hired Mr. Ortner to anything for me. I have the emails that prove these assertions.
